“I’ve tried everything, and nothing seems to work!”
You’ve heard that before, or perhaps you’ve even said it yourself when talking about losing weight, getting in shape, etc.
Here’s the reality…
The key to becoming a champion at anything is “brutal consistency.”
Look no further than Tiger Woods to see brutal consistency in action.
Nobody worked as hard on his game and fitness than Tiger during his prime, and the results speak for themselves.
The issue most people have in regard to their health and fitness is that they are always chasing the shiny new object.
These usually come in the form of new exercises, new routines, new diets, new medications, etc.
Admittedly, I’ve been there, done that.
But that was mainly out of ignorance.
Champions of aging generally stick to the same routine for years, and that is where you get long lasting results, i.e., long lasting health and fitness.
I like to cite my ex-father-in-law as an example of a champion of aging, even though he only lived to 80.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, he went to the YMCA to lift weights and then jog.
Week after week, year after year.
This is why he retained good mobility until the day he died, a little bit of sciatica notwithstanding.
On the last day of his life, he was on the roof of his house cleaning out gutters and followed that by washing two cars, including a big SUV.
While a congenital heart issue caught up to him that day, he was a long way off from ever having to live in a nursing home.
Most people have trouble sticking with a routine. It’s boring.
For instance, if your primary goal is to build significant strength over time, you will generally perform the same basic exercises… squat, deadlift, bench press, overhead press and chin ups.
That can be boring to most people.
Also, most people seem to think complexity is what drives results.
This is due some of the videos seen on social media where athletes are performing some crazy exercises.
The fitness industry understands this, which is why programs such as P90X have enjoyed such great success.
However, it can be difficult to stick with a program like that for more than a couple months, and people move on to the next shiny new object.
With all this in mind, to get the most bang for your buck, keep it simple and be consistent.
Now, get to work!
